Old Water Feature

I suppose it was bound to happen, familiarity breeds contempt or so they say, or in the foreman's case boredom and a want for something new. Therefore it was with little surprise that whilst wandering around Chatsworth garden centre the foreman said "I'd like a water feature like that, something that makes more noise!". The scene was set for a should I, shouldn't I buy one. Well the inevitable happened and a new water feature was ordered, so here is a quick look at how the old one looked as we stripped it apart and how the new one goes together.

As it was. I thought it looked neat apart from the glass marbles, don't ask about these - it was someone else's 'good' idea.

In this shot it's possible to see the plastic tray that supports the pebbles and the bituminus liner that holds the water in. It would have been possible to seal the cable entry into the container and do away with the liner but we weren't sure how porous the pot was and whether this could cause it crack during hot/cold spells due to the pot absorbing some water.

Here's the liner (crumpled up!) in the middle of the blocks that support the plastic tray, the liner is a sort of  funnel shape and so fits great between the blocks. Also visible is the pump and plastic pipe that carries the power cable under the patio and into the house.

What is there to say....er, nice pot?

Now we're back to the beginning we can start again. You can just about make out the string that we are going to use as a draw wire. We simply tied this to the power cable of the old pump, put plenty of washing up liquid down the house end of the plastic pipe and pulled it through, it's messy but works a treat!
